As explored in a March 2021 Conde Nast Traveler article, the private jet industry has experienced an influx of new travelers who reacted to the uncertainty of commercial air travel by opting for chartered flights. This was particularly true in the business aviation sphere, where work-specific travel combined with social distancing mandates to make private jet travel a practical necessity.

Unlike scheduled air travel, which was still 65 percent lower than normal in early 2021, private jets were running at regular capacity and flights were expected to rise by 25 percent through mid-2021. One industry operator characterized this trend as long term, as ordinary travelers now view private jets as an ideal way to transport older family members safely and easily reunite with loved ones. There is still significant room for upward growth, with a recent McKinsey study revealing that more than 90 percent of those able to afford private charter flights still do not take advantage of this mode of transportation.
